When you paste a URL into WhatsApp, Slack, Twitter, LinkedIn or iMessage, the app fetches the page and reads its Open Graph (og:title, og:description, og:image) and Twitter Card meta tags to render a preview card. If those tags are missing or wrong, the preview falls back to ugly defaults (the URL itself, a generic globe icon, or no image at all). This tool fetches the same metadata so you can see exactly what your link will look like before you share it.
The most frequent issue is og:image pointing to a non-public URL (behind login, or returning HTTP instead of HTTPS, or smaller than 600×315 pixels, which most platforms reject). Always test with a real preview tool — many CMSs auto-generate og:image fields incorrectly.
