Unlike JPG conversion, PNG keeps every pixel intact with no compression artifacts, so text stays razor-sharp and gradients stay smooth.
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, so it is the right choice when you need to overlay a PDF page onto a brand background, or when the PDF contains crisp diagrams, logos or screenshots where JPG compression would soften the edges. PNG file size is typically 3–5× larger than the equivalent JPG, but for single-page exports that hardly matters.
Each PDF page is rasterised in your browser via pdf.js, then encoded as PNG using the native HTML5 canvas. Because PNG is lossless, the output is pixel-identical to what Chrome's built-in viewer shows on screen at the chosen zoom level. There is no quality slider — PNG is either lossless or it isn't.
